Body Shop 'Ruby' doll heads to NYC!

Last month we had a seller from Norwich email us to say that a very collectable Body Shop 'Ruby' doll she had listed on PoundSeller had sold to a buyer in New York!!

This doll is so collectable because it was the late Anita Roddick, founder of the Body Shop's Anti Barbie doll and challenged the stereotypes dictated by the media and aimed to show the 3 billion women out there that normal is healthy, not skinny. The doll was launched in 1998 and helped to break the ice on a topic that was very prominent but not very commonly spoken about at that time.

Ruby was a fun idea, but she carried a serious message. She was intended to challenge stereotypes of beauty and counter the pervasive influence of the cosmetics industry, of which we understood we were a part. Perhaps more than we had even hoped, Ruby kick-started a worldwide debate about body image and self-esteem.

I think it's easy to get caught up in the past and forget where you are going in life.

Matt and I had the vision to start PoundSeller in December 2011 and felt that it was about time that selling was made simple. Having both been stung financially when it comes to selling items online, we wondered if it was possible to sell something, no matter what the value, and only pay £1 to sell it. We wanted to start our campaign locally initially and so naturally, we approached our local newspaper the Eastern Daily Press (EDP) and The Evening News who were kind enough to publish a story on us. Must apologise for the picture, cheesiness was an absolute must!!

Then after significant appetite from the USA, we felt that we must add the functionality to be able to sell and buy in USD and EUR. To partner the upgrade, we published a press release on PR Web which explains a little more about us.

The site continues to grow each day and our client base is steadily increasing, we want to make PoundSeller a household name, and one associated with quality, simplicity, honesty and integrity.

Currency upgrade

PoundSeller have upgraded our currency options to include US Dollar's and Euro's.

We had noticed a rise in traffic from the USA and the rest of Europe and so it seemed logical to integrate some additional currencies.

Nothing has changed in terms of how you list items or indeed how you pay, there is simply an additional dropdown box whereby you can select which currency you wish to list in.

We've also added a link to a currency converter so if an item is listed in USD and you aren't sure of the latest exhange rate, simply click the button and you'll be directed to a sit where you can easily check the latest exchange rate.

There are also a few days left for you to take advantage of our Christmas offer. Simply register free on PoundSeller and click on promotional codes, enter the code Jinglebells (case sensitive) to activate 10 free listings.

Once activated, the code won't expire however you must activate it before 31st December.

PoundSeller wants to help charities

PoundSeller understands how much good work charities do for our communities and for the environment, however we know that many don't have an online presence when it comes to selling items in order to raise money.

The UK public are so generous with the items that they send to the charity shops but they get absolutely swamped with items that take months to organise and shift.

Great to see that our Twitter and Facebook audiences are continuing to grow, if you have been part of making this happen then please accept my thanks!

We are looking to build some functionality to take PoundSeller to the global market, namely the ability to list in Pounds, Dollars or Euros which will take our site to the next level and open us up to our European and American market.
